Innovative director Mary Zimmerman brings her signature style to the Guthrie this fall withThe White Snake. Zimmerman earned a Tony Award for her striking version of Metamorphoses, where Ovid’s tales of transformation were played out around and in a pool built on the stage. For The White Snake, recently produced at the Goodman in Chicago (where the director is an artistic associate), Zimmerman tackles another story of transformation. White Snake is a serpent who changes shape into a young woman and finds love in the human world. Will she be able to remain in human form, or will her secret be revealed and force her out of the new world she loves? The cast is led by Amy Kim Waschke as White Snake and Tanjya Thai McBride as her companion, Green Snake. Jake Manabat plays her love interest, Xu Xian. Most of the group will be making their Guthrie debuts here, while Richard Howard will work for the company for the first time since 1999. (Picture by Liz Lauren)
