Over the past few years, The Book of Mormon has been the hottest ticket on Broadway. The not particularly sacred but really profane musical hits the theatrical sweet spot. Musical-theater junkies can get thrills from the memorable score, which is fresh and familiar at the same time. Comedy lovers have a crazed book that puts a couple of white-bread Mormon missionaries in the heart of battle-torn Africa. They have no luck bringing their message to the people, until they begin to change it to fit the harsh realities around them (and add in a bit of Star Wars and other pop-culture debris to boot). All of this comes from the minds of Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the duo behind South Park. While the show — and especially the feature film and Team America: World Police — has always revealed their soft spot for musicals, they get to fully engage in that here (with the help of Avenue Q co-creator Robert Lopez). The Book of Mormon is back for its second visit in the past year and a half, and it is proving to be just as popular this time around in Minneapolis. In fact, the run has been extended a week to meet demand. Also, if you strike out in getting tickets to the performance of your choice, there is a nightly lottery for a limited number of $25 tickets.
