The reigning “Queen of Soul” is an international sensation who has been making hits since the 1960s. Aretha Franklin, best known for the classics “Respect” and “A Natural Woman,” has a catalog of more than 40 albums and countless awards, including 17 Grammys. Born in Memphis, Franklin got her start singing at her Baptist church and was deemed a gospel-singing prodigy. She was signed to Columbia Records in 1960 and has been topping the American charts ever since. Her repertoire includes an array of genres: pop, soul, jazz, rock, blues and gospel. Franklin has performed in front of millions of people through the years and, in 1987, became the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
