MY ACT DESCRIPTION – Writer Truman Capote spent much time partying at Studio 54 in the 1970s, neglecting work on his novel inspired by New York high society gossip (eventually published in unfinished form as “Answered Prayers”, the rest has never been found).
I've imagined that, on this night, Capote's much more introverted partner, writer Jack Dunphy, is at the club looking for Truman, and he'll be sharing unseen excerpts from “Answered Prayers” with party goers privately and on stage in an effort to get Truman to focus on writing his novel again (these excerpts being composed by me).
*While Truman and Jack were gay, the fictional book excerpts I'll read will only be about the high society types Truman described; I am not composing passages about queer identity or experience, nor will I embody harmful stereotypes in my mannerisms.
