Brody Bond is a songwriter and reluctant performer from Baltimore, Maryland. Audiences rarely get to hear his music, but when they do they are often taken by surprising melodies and lyrics that reframe how people can receive and perceive the world. Brody’s performances are light-hearted and sometimes even enjoyably awkward, but the songs are serious, poetic, and curious.
When asked what inspires his music, Bond pauses for a while before offering, “Each of us is a walking contradiction in one way or another. And each of us is trying to figure out both what reality actually is and what it might mean for our lives. That’s really hard to do. I think every song I write somehow reflects the confusion, beauty, and hope in that pursuit.”
Brody Bond released his first album, “Lovers Try” in 2007. His recent performances are all new material, though. “The best songs aren’t recorded yet,” he adds, speaking specifically of the writing he’s done since 2018. “And that’s why I especially love being able to play these songs for people in small shows. It’s really special for me, and I hope it is for the audience, too.”
