DIJO Productions presents
Heroes

A play by Gerald Sibleyras, adapted by Tom Stoppard

July 19 - 28, 2024

Heroes, the award-winning work by French playwright Gerald Sibleyras, and translated by Tom Stoppard, is about Three WWI soldiers passing the time on a terrace of a French home for war veterans in 1959. The combination of Stoppard's rapier wit and dazzling use of language and the poignancy of these old vets nearing the end of their lives provides a mix of comic curmudgeonly, camaraderie and nostalgia.  The 2006 Olivier Award-winner for Best New Comedy is a moving portrait of loyalty with a few insults thrown in between. It reminds us of how veterans live with the ravages of war long after it has ended. And it tells us about the camaraderie soldiers enjoy, even if they weren’t in the same trench.   Heroes is a funny and bittersweet play about memory and “not going gently into that good night.” It is ultimately very funny — as well as a warm and deeply moving meditation on aging and companionship.  Staring three Santa Barbara theatrical luminaries, Ed Giron, Van Ryker, and Bill Waxman, this is not to be missed Dijo Productions theatrical event.
