A modern morality tale about a former Australian soldier who returns to Afghanistan to seek forgiveness from the family of a civilian man he accidentally killed during the war. He puts his life in the hands of the village justice system – the Jirga or traditional assembly, part of the non-written, age-old Afghan ethical code of honor. Filmed under extreme circumstances in dangerous locations inside Kandahar with assistance from the local people of Afghanistan. Australia’s Oscar submission for Best Foreign Language Film.
Co-sponsored by the Australian Consulate-General in NYC.
Speaker: Director Benjamin Gilmour via Skype, moderated by Zahra Lotfi, a Middle Eastern studies scholar originally from Afghanistan.
