Agape Actors Co-Op proudly presents Picnic, William Inge’s Pulitzer Prize winning drama about young love, family, and the need to belong.
In Picnic, a handsome young drifter named Hal shakes up a small Kansas town over the course of Labor Day Weekend. Hal’s virility and sexual magnetism seem to attract the attention of every woman in town, including Mage Owens, the girlfriend of Hal’s fraternity brother, Alan.
Originally produced in 1953, Picnic won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the New York Drama Critic’s Circle Award for Best Play. A 1955 film adaptation starring William Holden and Kim Novak was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
